Music Review: The Waiting Room by Eamonn Nugent

Artist: Eamonn Nugent

Album: The Waiting Room

Stand out tracks:  Homage, Glasgow to Galway, Ale is Dear, Late Night in Glasgow

Perfect for: Getting your trad on

‘The Waiting Room’ by Eamonn Nugent is a collection of songs Eamonn has played Bodhran on over the years. A well-known, loved and respected trad musician in his own right, this album is testament to how Eamonn has touched so many people and brought them together through music. From the opening track Homage that immediately sends signals to your feet to start tapping, through to the Glasgow to Galway where you want to just get up and dance, to the soaring and uplifting lilt of Ale is Dear and the absolutely stunning Late Night in Glasgow, this entire album is a joy to immerse yourself in.

Personally, this review is a difficult one to write as at the time of writing, Eamonn is at the mercy of a brain tumour; a cruel and devastating fate that has robbed his future creating more inspiring music projects. By purchasing this album any money raised will be donated to Brain tumour Ireland/ Brain tumour research UK. Both charities are doing extraordinary work in assisting those and their families with the diagnosis and improving research and treatments in this area.

‘The Waiting Room’ has been nominated for Scots Trad Album of the Year 2024 and voting is currently open until 10 November. I would urge you to go listen to this incredible album and lend your vote to making this the Scots Trad Album of The Year. It would be a humble and poignant way to honour a remarkable talent.
